Shropshire Couple Tie the Knot at Telford Shopping Centre

A Shropshire couple is celebrating after tying the knot at Telford Shopping Centre today.

Bride, Kate Marr, aged 40, and Groom, Mike Davies, aged 44, who are both from Madeley, were legally married in front of around 40 invited guests and hundreds of shoppers. The 20 minute ceremony took place from 2pm this afternoon in Sherwood Square, right at the heart of Telford Shopping Centre.

Kate, who works at Telford Shopping Centre as a Customer Service Advisor, and Mike, who also works at the Centre as a Maintenance Electrician, met through work when Mike first joined the maintenance team in 2005.  After being close friends for several years they started dating in 2010 and, on New Year’s Eve 2013, Mike got down on one knee and proposed.

Kate, who walked down the aisle in a dress by Ronald Joyce, from Shropshire Country Brides in Telford, said: “When we first got engaged, we joked that the wedding should take place at Telford Shopping Centre.

“Not only did we meet and fall in love here but, as we’ve both worked in the Centre for many years now, we have some very close friends here. One of my three bridesmaids and the best man are both people we met through our jobs at the Centre. It’s a cliché, but it’s like one big family.”

Mike added: “When the Wedding Exhibition took place in the Centre early last year, Kate mentioned how she loved the staging in Sherwood Square and we started to think quite seriously about how perfect it would be if we could recreate it for our own wedding.

“We were thrilled when the centre management team was so receptive to our ideas and we have worked closely with them over the past six months or so to plan our dream wedding right here in the middle of Telford Shopping Centre.”

Chris Jones, Centre Director at Telford Shopping Centre, said: “While I don’t think any of the centre management team ever envisaged applying for a licence for civil marriages and civil partnerships to be legally held in Sherwood Square, we are all very excited to be joining a highly exclusive list of unusual places to tie the knot.

“The new Mr and Mrs Davies have been very accommodating in the build-up to the wedding, so logistics and organisation have been very straightforward.  We are all so happy for Kate and Mike and it’s been an absolute privilege for the team at Telford Shopping Centre to be so closely involved in their big day.”

Kate and Mike were loyal to their friends and colleagues at Telford Shopping Centre when choosing suppliers for the wedding.  On the morning of the wedding, Kate and her three bridesmaids had their wedding hairstyles perfected by Francesco’s in House of Fraser, with the team at Lancôme, Estee Lauder, Clinique and Chanel in Debenhams taking care of their make-up.

Some of the exhibitors at Telford Shopping Centre’s forthcoming Wedding Exhibition were also keen to help the couple to ensure they had everything they needed for their special day, including Stylishly Classic and Peter Posh.  Gwhizz Design in Ironbridge supplied the flowers.

The wedding ceremony was conducted by Registrar, Sally Shaw.  Following the ceremony, the bridal party had photographs in Sherwood Square, before attending the wedding reception at nearby Hadley Park House Hotel in Telford.
