Box Road Update - September 2014

Works continue as part of development of the surrounding box road and connecting links to Telford Town Centre set by Telford and Wrekin Council and The Highways Agency.

These works have meant alterations in areas and reduces the surrounding box road to a single lane of traffic for safety while works continue to change the current road structure to a two-way system and pedestrian improvements. Please be assured that though these works are extensive, access in and around Telford Town Centre is still possible and has not prevented access to the Telford Shopping Centre or the car parks.

What is happening?

Currently, works are continuing on all roads surrounding the Shopping Centre to alter into a two-way system including the building of raised divide areas, additional pedestrian crossing points and creating more pedestrian areas either side of the road to make movement safer and easier across Telford Town Centre. You will also see that islands have now been built at all corners to support the two-way system and allow easier movement across the Town Centre area. To allow for these works, there are safety barriers surrounding the works for the protection of the public, vehicles and construction teams. However though these barriers are in place, access around the Town Centre is still possible but may incur some delay during peak times.

St Quentin Gate currently has temporary traffic lights in place to manage the junction for Telford Ice Rink and The International Centre to replace the permanent lights during the works.

From September, the development works proceed to continue construction along Coach Central (opposite the Bus Station) and leading to Malinsgate. During daytime hours, the works will not cause any additional delays than seen over the previous month. Between 1st - 8th September, there will be road closures along Coach Central leading to Malinsgate from 8pm - 6am for resurfacing works. Diversions will be in place throughout the evening closures and it will not prevent you accessing anywhere else within the Town Centre area. Car parks will operate as normal and access into Brown Elm car park is still possible via Southwater Way.
