Get arty for a good cause

A Shropshire art therapy group is inviting Telford shoppers and businesses to get arty for a good cause.

An 8ft square tile mosaic is being created to raise funds for a mental health support group, and local people are invited to contribute their own masterpiece.

The mural has been devised by Whitchurch-based Community Interest Company Big Red’s House, which offers free talk therapy and art therapy for the stressed and depressed in the community.

The group showcases artwork at Galleries Alive in New Row.

Big Red’s House director Simon Tooth drew up the huge image and chopped it into 256 6inch squares, each of which is available to decorate for a £15 donation.

Supporters then paint or decorate their own segment of the mosaic and return the tile, to be put back together at Galleries Alive.

Simon said: “Art therapy can offer a positive form of escapism for people coping with mental health issues, and our service enables the stressed and depressed to find a creative outlet.

“In addition to the squares which make up the overall mosaic image, local businesses or organisations can purchase a square to advertise themselves. These will surround the mosaic and showcase the support Big Red’s House gets from the local community.”
